Donald Ray Cathey (DC), 65, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Donnie was born on August 4, 1951, to Frell and Frances Cathey. Donnie was a life long "Westsider" and was known for his love of Nascar racing. He would load up his old racing bus and head to the infields throughout the state to cheer on Bill Elliott. In later years, he camped at Morehead Camp Ground at Charlotte Motor Speedway. As a teen, he would accompany his family to the Highland Games and help cook meals for the competitors. Donnie attended Harding High and worked as a plumber. He was always ready to help a friend with their plumbing problems. He was a kind man with a great sense of humor. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Frell and Frances Cathey. He is survived by his two brothers, Jerry (Curl) and Reggie (Fish). A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Westside Tavern at 5:00PM on Saturday, August 20, 2016
